B.Eng. Mechanical Engineering (Hons.), National University of Singapore
My name is Shubhankar and I'm currently studying in the Master's in Strategy and Management of International Businesss (SMIB) program here at ESSEC. Prior to joining ESSEC, I studied Mechanical Engineering at National University of Singapore and worked for two years as an equipment engineer in the semiconductors industry. You might be wondering what made me realise that I wanted to pursue a masters and why I decided to chose SMIB? During my bachelor's degree, I got the opportunity to work at a biotech startup in Stockholm, Sweden for a year. There, I worked on sales and marketing but also handled business development activities such as competitor analysis and market entry analysis. After working as an engineer for two years, I realised that I actually enjoyed corporate strategy which was what I was doing during my internship
I chose ESSEC as here, the curriculum of places an important emphasis on soft skills. Coming from an engineering background, there were few soft skills imparted to me but the knowledge that I would gain from ESSEC and SMIB would allow me to grow holistically with better and more developed soft skills. Also the SMIB programme offers a 7 month consulting project called the Asian Strategy Challenge, which offers you the opportunity to work with a real company as a consultant and work towards solving a challenge the company is facing. This, I believe is an invaluable experience which would allow me to break into any field I desire after my masters.
