Hi! नमस्ते! Bonjour!
Identifying the need to do an MBA and choosing one is not just a career changing but a life changing process. While each step in the selection process is important, having a clear objective on why to do an MBA, identifying and assessing your requirements and matching it with the business school is a pre-requisite.
I see it as an investment decision – there is a significant cost involved in terms of course fees, living expenses and opportunity cost of salary lost, vs long term benefit. However, like any investment decision, the financial analysis is not enough. One has to also analyze the merits against one’s own objectives – career change, better position, etc. A misfit is a bad investment.
If you have not already guessed, I come from a finance background. I am a Chartered Accountant with 7.5 years of experience in business finance and Financial planning & analysis in FMCG, pharmaceutical and beauty care industries. In my previous roles, I have worked closely with various business units, cross-functional and strategy teams to ensure a healthy financial discipline.
However, with technology, AI and increasing outsourcing in the accounting and finance domain, the future of finance professionals is to re-invent themselves and upgrade their skills to remain relevant and become a key driver to the success of the businesses. Preparing and interpreting financial data is no longer enough; fitting the same into overall business and strategy is imperative. The role of a future CFO is changing. He/She is no longer only a traditional finance professional but one with strong business acumen having the capability to think outside the box and take up strategic roles. And hence, I decided to do an MBA.
With a small but truly diverse international cohort, strong course content, networking opportunities, digital week, business trips and the Capstone consultancy project, the Strategy & Management major of the Global MBA from ESSEC Business School caters to all my learning and development needs.
If you have any questions about ESSEC’s Global MBA program, the application process, life in Cergy/Paris, or you want to have a conversation on the decision-making process, please feel free to contact me.
