We are pleased to invite you to the sixth edition of the ESSEC & Mannheim EMBA Speaker Series on the evening of August 28. Mr. Bruno Roche, Mars Chief Economist, and Catalyst Managing Director will present on the Economics of Mutuality at the ESSEC Asia-Pacific Campus.



What is the right level of profit? This prescient question posed by the leadership of Mars Incorporated in 2007 prompted the initiation of the Economics of Mutuality. Since then the Economics of Mutuality programme has matured into a breakthrough management innovation and a new growth model that empowers businesses to adopt a more conscious form of capitalism that is not only fairer but more efficient than the dominant profit-driven model.

Bruno Roche is the Chief Economist of Mars, Incorporated - a multinational family owned company, makers of iconic brands like M&Ms, Mars, Snickers, Uncle Ben's, Pedigree, Royal Canin, Wrigley's gum, and more. 

In that role, he leads Catalyst, a global thought leadership capability, and internal corporate 'think-tank' for Mars. Over the last five decades, Catalyst remit has been to challenge conventional business thinking by developing breakthrough capabilities to solve some of Mars' most complex business challenge solutions and to position Mars in the thought leadership space.

Under Bruno’s leadership, Catalyst has developed groundbreaking methodologies in the areas of marketing effectiveness, organizational culture and M&A integration. It has also expanded geographically from its US & European base to become truly global – covering Asia and Africa. Catalyst members embrace many academic disciplines & expertise ranging from theoretical physics to anthropology, from artificial intelligence to philosophy, from development economics to MBA, PhDs, and historians represented by more than 10 nationalities.

Since 2007, Bruno has led the Economics of Mutuality program that has evolved over the last decade from a pioneering research program into a breakthrough business model innovation with general application across businesses. Bruno co-created the Mutuality in Business Lab at Oxford University in 2014, joined the World Economic Forum in 2015 and co-authored the book Completing Capitalism in 2017 (Berrett-Koehler, 2017 & CITIC Press in Chinese, 2018).

Bruno’s academic & doctoral research background followed an applied maths path with a specialization in international economics, finance, and management sciences. 


Yassine-El-Ouarzazi-Round-image.pngMr. Yassine El Ouarzazi is the Program Director, Innovation of Mars Catalyst. Yassine joined Catalyst in 2006 after a career in business analytics in the finance and automotive industries. For 7 years, he spearheaded Mars' Evidence-Based Marketing program, before turning to research in Business Model Innovation. Since 2014, he has been developing and deploying the signature Economics of Mutuality process to help businesses bring purpose to life — from Ecosystem Mapping to Intervention Design, to Metrics. Yassine is from Morocco. He graduated from a French engineering school (Ecole des Mines de Paris) in 2000. He has a passion for technology and education (and has contributed as a volunteer to the French translation of KhanAcadmy.org). 



Cedomir-Nestorovic-ESSEC.pngProf. Cédomir Nestorovic is Professor of International Marketing & Geopolitics at ESSEC Business School and the Program Director of the ESSEC & Mannheim Executive MBA Asia-Pacific. He has taught at ESSEC for more than 20 years and is also the Academic Co-Director of the MBA program at the Arabian Gulf University, Manama, Bahrain. Prof. Nestorovic's research interests include the Geopolitics of Central and Oriental European countries; International Marketing and Commerce, and Islamic Business and Managment. Prof. Cedomir was awarded "Professor of the Week" by the Financial Times in 2012. 


jan-ondrus-round-image.pngProf. Jan Ondrus is an Associate Professor of Information Systems and Chair of Networked Business Models at ESSEC Business School. Additionally, he is the Director of Research for the Center of Excellence in Digital Business. His interests cover digital business models and innovation, mobile platforms and ecosystems, and the strategy of IT. He currently serves as an Associate Editor of the Information Systems Journal (ISJ) and Electronic Commerce Research and Applications (ECRA). In recent years, Jan has been visiting the University of Hawaii, Sungkyunkwan University, Mannheim University, University of Lausanne, Case Western Reserve University, Seoul National University, and Korea Development Institute (KDI).
